Higher pH, more degreasing power (and more care with the material)
An alkaline detergent has a pH above 7. The higher it is, the greater its ability to saponify grease and dissolve organic soiling, and the more care is needed with the material: many strong alkaline products cannot be used on aluminium, according to their data sheets.
This range goes from slightly alkaline multi-purpose cleaners (pH 8.5–10) to degreasers for burnt-on grease and CIP detergents (pH 12.5–12.8). For aluminium there are two options: Alcalino, with corrosion inhibitors, and Neugras, low-alkalinity.
Which alkaline detergent for each use
Food industry
Foam and CIP
- Gras Foam — pH 12.2; foam at 2–6 %
- Alcalino Pro 1 — pH 12.8; CIP at 0.5–5 %
- Alcalino Pro 5 — pH 12.5; tunnels and CIP at 1–4 %

pH, dosage and materials of each alkaline detergent
| Product | pH (1 %) | Dosage | Use and materials per data sheet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deplac | 12.5 | Neat or up to 10 %, 70–80 ºC | Griddles and ovens with burnt-on grease; not aluminium |
| Grassol | 12.2 | Neat or up to 1 % | Griddles, extractor hoods, floors, tiles and stainless steel; not aluminium |
| Gras Foam | 12.2 | 2–6 % at 20–60 ºC | Foam for cutting rooms and meat plants; not aluminium |
| Alcalino Pro 1 | 12.8 | 0.5–5 % at 45–70 ºC | CIP and washing tunnels; not aluminium |
| Alcalino Pro 5 | 12.5 | 1–4 %, 10–20 min | Washing tunnels and CIP; not aluminium |
| Alcalino | 12.0 | 1–4 % at max. 60 ºC | Utensils, trays, packaging machines; suitable for aluminium |
| Neugras | 11.3 | Neat or up to 10 % | Kitchen; all metals, including aluminium |
| Drap | 12.5 | 10–25 g/kg of dry laundry | Laundry with stubborn stains, rags, kitchen cloths |
| Solmatic | 12.5 | 2–10 g/kg, 60–80 ºC | Laundry washing with Tensomatic |
| Bionet | 8.5 | 10–20 g/l | Multi-purpose with bioalcohol |
| Amonet | 9.5 | 5–10 g/l | Super-concentrated ammonia-based multi-purpose cleaner |
| Xam limon | 10.0 | Neat or 10–20 g/l | Cleaning and hygiene of surfaces and floors |
Check the material. Strong alkaline products (pH 12 or higher) are not used on aluminium unless their data sheet allows it, as with Alcalino; always rinse after the contact time.

Frequently asked questions about alkaline detergents
What is an alkaline detergent?
A detergent with a pH above 7. Alkalinity dissolves grease and organic soiling; the higher the pH, the greater the degreasing power and the more care needed with the material.
Which alkaline detergent should I use for kitchen grease?
Is there an alkaline detergent for aluminium?
Which alkaline product is used in CIP?
Alcalino Pro 1 at 0.5–5 % at 45–70 ºC for 20–45 minutes, with a pre-rinse. More products in the CIP cleaning guide.
And in the laundry?
Do you supply industry, hospitality and distributors?
Yes. We have been manufacturing at our plant in Vic since 1990. See the distribution programme.
What soiling do you need to remove?
Tell us which surface or equipment it is, the type of grease and whether there is aluminium: we will recommend the right alkaline detergent at factory prices.
