Venturi Dosing
Venturi dosing is a chemical injection system based on the Venturi principle, a fluid dynamics phenomenon where a pressure drop occurs when a fluid flows through a narrowed section of a pipe. This reduction in pressure creates a vacuum effect that automatically draws a chemical product into the main water flow without requiring an external power source or pump. The system exploits the kinetic energy of flowing water to proportionally inject cleaning or disinfection chemicals, making it an efficient, passive, and reliable dosing method widely used in industrial hygiene and professional cleaning applications.
In the industrial laundry sector, Venturi dosing systems are particularly valuable for continuous chemical injection during washing cycles. They allow precise proportional dosing of detergents, softeners, and disinfectants based on water flow rate, ensuring consistent product concentration regardless of minor flow variations. This is especially beneficial in large-scale operations where thousands of kilograms of textiles are processed daily, as it eliminates over-dosing (which damages fabrics and increases costs) and under-dosing (which compromises hygiene standards). Instaquim states the dose and application method, including automatic dosing, in each technical data sheet.
In the food and beverage industry (HORECA), Venturi dosing is used extensively for automated sanitization of equipment, pipelines, and surfaces. The system's proportional nature ensures that chemical sanitizers maintain efficacy without exceeding regulatory limits for food contact surfaces. For livestock operations, Venturi-based systems apply disinfectants to water troughs and cleaning solutions to facilities with minimal manual intervention. In automotive workshops, these systems deliver parts washers and floor cleaners with consistent concentration, reducing product waste and labor costs.
The key advantages include: reliability (no mechanical pumps to fail), cost-effectiveness (no electricity consumption), simplicity (minimal maintenance), and proportional dosing (automatic adjustment to flow changes). However, the system requires adequate water pressure differential and is less suitable for highly viscous products or applications requiring variable dosing rates independent of flow.
Proper installation includes appropriate strainers and back-check valves to prevent siphoning and contamination.
