The cost items of each month

We won't give you "typical" ranges: every location is different, and an invented figure would give you a nice-looking but false result. These are the cost items, what each one depends on and where to get the real figure.

ItemWhat it depends onWhere to get the figure
Premises rentThe location and the floor area. It is the fixed cost that weighs the most. The landlord's offer.
ElectricityThe consumption per cycle of each machine and the contract: energy term and power term.Data sheets of the washing machines and dryers, and your electricity offer.
Gas (if applicable)Only if the dryers are gas-fired.Consumption from the dryer's data sheet × the price in your offer.
Water and sewerageThe litres per wash and the commercial rate in your municipality. The washing machine's data sheet and the website of the town council or the water company.

InsurancePublic liability and multi-risk.Quote from your insurer.
Cleaning and attendanceWhether you do it yourself or pay someone. What you pay, or what your time is worth.
Accountancy, internet and payment systemAccountancy fees, connection, payment unit or telemetry, and alarm.Quotes for each service.

Notes

  • ✓Chemical spend is one of the few costs you can control once you are open: it depends on the dosing being well calibrated. With the data-sheet doses, an 11 kg washing machine at 5–10 g/kg uses 55–110 g of detergent per cycle.
  • ✓Electricity depends a lot on the contract and on the programmes used.
  • ✓Rent is the most important fixed cost: choose the location carefully.
  • ✓Preventive maintenance is better than corrective maintenance.
